In a small human clinical trial involving 14 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) diagnosed with luteal phase defect (LPD), Esomeprazole magnesium 20mg was found to increase the ovulation rate and significantly improve polycystic ovary syndrome symptoms (such as abdominal discomfort, headache, hot flashes).
In a larger, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 52 women with PCOS with no known LPD, Esomeprazole magnesium 20mg was found to increase ovulation and improve symptoms of luteal phase defect (LPD) more significantly than placebo (28/14, 50% vs. 7/52, 31% vs. 4/52, and placebo/esomeprazole difference -3.3%).
In a smaller double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 104 women with LPD, Esomeprazole magnesium 20mg was found to improve symptoms of luteal phase defect (LPD) more significantly than placebo (16/14, 63% vs. 2/104, 32% vs. 2/104, and placebo/esomeprazole difference -4.5%).
